VOA Experts to Discuss Press Freedom, Best News Practices at VOA Museum “Oxygen of Journalism” Event

Voice of America press freedom and best practices experts in Washington, D.C., will be virtual guests at a presentation and Q&A forum Thursday, March 23 at the National VOA Museum of Broadcasting in West Chester.

The event is part of the museum’s “Journalism: The Oxygen of Democracy” series.

Sebaly, Shillito and Dyer and the Miami University Menard Family Center for Democracy are sponsors. The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. While admission is free, seating is limited to 100 people, so advance registration is required.

FTC Proposes New Rule to Broadly Ban Non-Compete Agreements

On January 5, 2023, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) announced a proposed rule that, if
enacted, would amount to a near-total ban on non-compete agreements nationwide. The rule would preempt
the standing state laws which govern non-compete clauses and give employers 180 days to rescind all
existing non-compete agreements.

USCIS H-1B PETITIONS – FY 2024 Cap Season is Here

In 2020 USCIS instituted an electronic pre-registration system for H-1B petition filings. For this year, USCIS has indicated the initial registration process will open at noon on March 1 and remain open until noon on March 18, 2023.  The petitions randomly selected in lottery are supposed to be announced on or before March 31, 2023.
